Toyota to support the Rickshaw Challenge for BBC Children in Need

Toyota is delighted to be able to support BBC Children in Need this year by providing a range of support vehicles for the charity’s annual Rickshaw Challenge.

The Rickshaw Challenge is one of the highlights of the BBC Children in Need fundraising extravaganza, which challenges young people to recreate The One Show host Matt Baker’s epic solo rickshaw ride from Edinburgh to London in 2011.

Now in its tenth year, the Rickshaw Challenge will still tell the powerful stories of its heroic young riders but in a slightly different format due to COVID-19 restrictions. This year’s team is made up of six young people who have all been supported by projects funded by BBC Children in Need.

They are being challenged to pedal the equivalent distance of Matt Baker’s ride – 332 miles in a straight line – but within the beautiful surroundings of the Goodwood Estate in West Sussex, which last weekend played host to Goodwood SpeedWeek. The eight-day challenge will start on Friday 6 November and covers a variety of terrains in order to reach each day’s target, in time for a live broadcast within The One Show each evening at 7:00pm.

Toyota is assisting in this effort by supplying a range of logistical support vehicles, including RAV4 SUVs and our Mirai hydrogen fuel cell saloon. In addition, Toyota will be hosting a number of fundraising initiatives for BBC Children in Need through our dealerships across the country.
