Toyota and Suzuki have agreed a Business Partnership between the two companies, working together to overcome mutual challenges faced by two of Japan’s automotive superpowers.
This memorandum follows on from an announcement made by Toyota & Suzuki in October last year which expressed the interest of both parties in exploring the possibility of a business partnership.
The areas of focus for the two companies will be environmental, safety, information technologies as well as the mutual supply of products and components. An implementation framework will immediately be setup to begin working on the points agreed by company bosses Akio Toyoda and Osamu Suzuki.
President of Toyota, Akio Toyoda, commented:
“The words of Chairman Osamu Suzuki at our joint press conference in October last year – ‘If you are running a company, you have to continue to take challenges. You are running your company for the benefit of society and this remains unchanged.’ – resonated deeply with me.

“This, I felt, was indeed the spirit of (the local expression) “let’s do it”. Both of our companies, which trace their roots to Enshu (the western part of Japan’s Shizuoka prefecture), intend to apply the spirit of “let’s do it” to the fullest, and we want to cooperate towards enabling all people throughout the world to truly experience the joy of mobility, and to achieving a society of future mobility full of smiles.
“I am truly thankful for having been given this opportunity to work together with a company such as Suzuki, which overflows with the spirit of challenge. Toyota looks forward to learning much.”
Chairman of Suzuki, Osamu Suzuki, said:
“Under the leadership of President Akio Toyoda, Toyota was enthusiastic throughout our discussions regarding partnership, even though such was sought by Suzuki, which was concerned about the development of advanced technologies. I want to express my heartfelt appreciation.

“In response to Toyota’s display of enthusiasm, Suzuki also intensively engaged in the discussions and we now stand at the starting point for building a concrete, co-operative relationship, I want to give this effort our fullest and to aim at producing results that will lead Toyota to conclude that deciding to work together with Suzuki was the right thing for them to have decided to do.”
As a representative of both Toyota and Suzuki brands here in Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire, we are excited to see what fruit the partnership will bear in the future. Two fantastic companies with similar values working towards a common goal can only be a positive for our customers.
