UK Toyota Hybrid Sales Surge

Toyota is seeing unprecedented increases in sales of its petrol-electric hybrid vehicles in 2017, it has announced.

Toyota (GB) PLC has supplied 22,616 hybrid cars in the months January-June this year, which is a rise of more than 30 percent on the same period last year – a phenomenal achievement for a company which, as part of Toyota Motor Corporation, has already sold 10 million Toyota & Lexus hybrid vehicles worldwide. The majority of the increase comes from business buyers, with fleet sales reporting a 43.2 per cent increase in year-on-year hybrid sales. It’s the same story across the rest of Europe, where hybrid sales are up 44% and incredibly in Western Europe 1 in every 2 Toyota vehicles sold is a hybrid, proving that it is no longer a left-field choice.

These statistics have been boosted dramatically by the introduction of Toyota’s stylish new crossover vehicle, the C-HR, with 7,450 units sold in the first 6 months of the year, with the hybrid option being chose by two-thirds of UK buyers, thanks to low emissions, great fuel economy and fantastic driving dynamics.

RAV4 Hybrid has also had a big part to play in the success of Toyota Hybrid technology this year, with sales up more than 65 percent compared with 2016.

Sales Director for Toyota GB, Mark Roden, said: “Hybrid is no longer a secret, or a mystery. We’re seeing growth in sales at huge levels and that’s because customers recognise the benefits of hybrid in fuel efficiency, in environmental impact and in the smooth, quiet drive hybrid gives.” He added: “Toyota has led the way for two decades in making hybrid technology available to everyone. We have proven technology, famous reliability and the most exciting range of hybrid cars we’ve ever offered. I’m delighted that more people than ever are enjoying the benefits of them.”

Andrew Cullis, Toyota GB Marketing Director, said: “The fantastic performance of C-HR and RAV4 demonstrates the increasing strength-in-depth of our hybrid range – a line-up that offers more choice than any other manufacturer. We have successfully tailored our technology to suit the demands of different vehicle segments, so that our crossover and SUV models are a strong and attractive alternative to their conventionally powered rivals.”

Currently Toyota are offering 2 Years’ Free Servicing across the hybrid range which includes a choice of 8 different vehicles including Yaris, Auris, Auris Touring Sports, Prius, Prius Plug-in, Prius+, RAV4, and C-HR.
