Staff Spotlight: Mark Hicklin

At Ron Brooks we think its important that our customers get to know the people behind the scenes at Ron Brooks, so once a month we shine the spotlight on one of our valued team members. This month, it’s the turn of Mark Hicklin, an experienced Sales Executive who has been with the company for many years.

Job Title: Sales Executive

Dealership: Mansfield

Family: I’ve got a partner called Tina and a little 9 year old boy called Elliot. He’s really into cars and I’ve already bought him his own private number plate which is on Tinas car!

When did you start working for Ron Brooks?

Just over six years ago. I moved here from another Toyota dealer in the area. Several Toyota dealers enquired about me going to work for them, but I chose to move to Ron Brooks as it’s a family-run business with values that appeal to me.

What’s your latest update?

I was recently awarded ‘Gold Member’ status, one of the first Sales Executives in the UK to achieve gold level in the Toyota network. I was one of four Ron Brooks employees to be put forward by Managing Director Kevin Slack after completing several years training, progressing through bronze & silver level to gold. It recognises my commitment to outstanding customer service.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I closely follow the British Touring Car Championship and I have a keen interest in classic cars. I also enjoy both road and mountain biking – it’s a good way of chilling out and spending time with my friends outdoors.

What was your first car?

My first car was a Morris 1100. It was white with red plastic (or “imitation leather” seats! The rusty wheelarches were optional extras I think. I didn’t really like it to be honest!

If we asked your colleagues to describe you, what would they say?

I really don’t know… Why don’t you ask them?

Well we did ask them, and this is what the had to say:

Rob Sanchez, who works closely with Mark in the Sales Team, said:

“He’s very customer orientated, a team player, and an asset to the company. He bends over backwards to help other people, and has leadership attributes too. He’s very dedicated to customer care.”

Service Advisor Liam Shorthouse said: “He’s a credit to the business. A character and a half! He’s a joy to work with”

What do you like about working at Ron Brooks?

People. The people I work with, and the customers I deal with. Sometimes I receive gifts and thank you cards after they’ve picked up their new car, this makes me feel great as I know that I’ve done my job to 110% of their expectations. One of my customers, Mr and Mrs Turner & their son, have bought over 30 cars off me in the last 25 years I’ve been in the motor trade.

What did you do for Comic Relief this year?

I completed a showroom bike ride from Mansfield to Skegness along with 3 others. I’m not one to brag but I did complete the journey in the quickest time – 86 miles in 4 and a half hours!
