Every month we like to profile a different member of staff, from different departments, so you can get to know our staff members a little bit better. This month it’s the turn of Liam Shorthouse, a member of the Aftersales team at Toyota/Suzuki Mansfield.
Dealership: Toyota/Suzuki Mansfield
Job Role: Aftersales Advisor/Bodyshop Coordinator
When did you start working for Ron Brooks?
June 2013. Before that I worked at a dealership in Nottingham but we got bought out by a college strangely enough, so I applied for a job at Ron Brooks as it’s near to where I live.

What’s your latest update?
I was recently given the additional responsibility of managing the Toyota and Suzuki approved bodyshop. It was hard to start with but I’m getting the hang of it now. I enjoy helping people out and making sure that they’re happy with their repair and car overall.
What do you like about working at Ron Brooks?
I enjoy meeting friendly customers, and I’m enjoying working for a beautiful family-run business whereas before I worked in a PLC company that was very corporate. I’ve turned work colleagues into friends and it’s a privilege to work with the likes of Mark Hicklin.
What was your first car?
I had an MG ZR, I’ll admit I was a bit of a boy racer back in those days, then I grew up a bit and owned a Toyota Auris Hybrid Excel which was supplied by Ron Brooks. A great car with panoramic roof, heated seats and satellite navigation.

What do you like to do in your spare time:?
I enjoy watching football, as I’m a massive Manchester United fan and regularly make the trip to Old Trafford to watch the games. My all-time favourite player at the theatre of dreams is Ryan Giggs. The best match I’ve ever been to was the Manchester Derby, Michael Owen scored in the last minute to make it 4-3 and put the small Manchester club in their place. I enjoy treating my family to meals out at restaurants, because they’re very important to me. I would fully recommend Tom Brown’s in Gunthorpe if anyone was looking for a new place to try! I enjoy playing football too, the inter-Ron Brooks 5-a-side matches were great fun to play in, although we lost on both occasions to Ilkeston.
What do you think about Suzuki Mansfield?
It’s good for the company to spread its wings and become a multi-franchise group. Suzukis are fantastic cars and our customers seem to be loving them.
If we asked your colleagues to describe you, what would they say?
Handsome. Barrel of laughs. Wind-up merchant. Possibly the best looking member of staff Ron Brooks currently has employed!
To put that theory to the test, we asked Mark from the Sales team how he would describe you?
I would agree with everything he said, apart from being the best looking lad at Ron Brooks, because I know the best looking lad is…? Aside from that he’s a likeable lad, the customers like him, and it’s good to see young and enthusiastic members of staff coming through the ranks here at Ron Brooks.
