Ron Brooks Lends a Helping Hand This Winter

Late last month, you may have read an article about two kind-hearted pensioner’s in the Derby Telegraph, who are helping out local residents this winter, running errands for people who struggle to get out and about during the colder months, especially as the frost and snow sets in.

– Also provides free Vehicle Health Check and Winter Kit to Winter Friends Project Volunteers

81-year old Marion Eyers and her husband Derek are volunteer supporters of The Winter Friends project, which aims to help people who are disabled, have long-term illnesses or are over the age of 65, with everyday tasks that they are unable to carry out themselves during the winter months. And while they might not be able to clear a driveway full of snow, they are able to run errands and collect shopping for people, running around in a Toyota AYGO that they purchased from Ron Brooks.

Upon seeing the article, Assistant Sales Manager Neil Haynes immediately began to think about what Ron Brooks, as an official Toyota dealership, could do to help:

“When I saw the article, I immediately recognised Mr and Mrs Eyres as I supplied them with their AYGO last year. I think it’s great what they are doing for their local community and I really wanted help out in any way I could. With the blessing of our MD I’m delighted to be able to supply free of charge winter tyres to keep Mr and Mrs Eyers moving this winter”

Winter tyres, which are available to purchase from both our Ilkeston and Mansfield dealerships, provide superior grip and performance when the temperature dips below 7 degrees Celsius, compared with regular “summer” tyres. They are made from a special compound that doesn’t go hard in colder weather and is able to key into the road surface more easily, providing better traction and stability in cold, wet, icy or snowy conditions.

The Winter Project helps people to stay safe and independent in their own months when the weather turns cold. They’re always looking for volunteers for people who can help out vulnerable people by carrying simple but essential tasks.
