New Toyota Yaris GRMN: New Details

More details have been released on the hotly anticipated upcoming Yaris GRMN, which marks Toyota’s sensational return to the hot hatchback market that is so popular in the UK and around Europe. Only 400 examples are to be built with only 100 coming to the UK – priced at £26,295.

Power!

New Yaris is powered by a 1.8-litre supercharged 2ZR-FE four-cylinder engine producing a massive 212 DIN hp and 249 Nm of torque – which is a lot in a Yaris! This means the car can achieve a 0-62 mph spring of 6.3 seconds and a top speed that is electronically limited to 143 mph.

Handling!

There have been some serious upgrades to the Yaris’ handling components in order to harness the high power output of the supercharged engine. There are Sachs developed shock absorbers and a much thicker front stabiliser bar, reinforced chassis, combined with 30 mm lower springs and a Torsen limited slip differential. There are four-pot brake calipers at the front as well as larger disc brakes both front and rear. Lightweight BBS alloy wheels complete the handling upgrades for the GRMN.

Looks!

The Yaris GRMN is now the only 3dr Yaris on sale – regular cars are now all 5dr. This is complimented by a large exterior rear spoiler, gloss black honeycomb front grille and gloss black mirrors, plus of course the 17″ BBS alloy wheels finished also finished in gloss black. The rear bumper also houses a striking centre-exit exhaust, which has been specially developed for the Yaris GRMN. Red & black decals on the front and side of the car distinguish this model as a Gazoo Racing performance model, in keeping with the Yaris WRC car competing in this year’s World Rally Championship.

Interior!

The inside of the Yaris GRMN is somewhat dominated by full Alcantara Boshoku sports seats, which have been specially designed for this project by the same people who made the seats for the Lexus LFA supercar. They are embossed with the Gazoo Racing logo, matching the exterior decals.

A GT86-style wheel controls the steering input while an exclusive aluminium gear shift knob and pedals complete the sporty look. There are GR logos on the steering wheel, dials and engine start button – never letting you forget what a special vehicle this is. Satellite Navigation is standard – presumably to help you find your way to the nearest race track!
