The new 2017 model year Toyota Yaris has ARRIVED at Ron Brooks Toyota in Ilkeston and Mansfield, and is now available to view and test drive.

The Yaris has recently undergone an extensive improvement programme, with Toyota investing over €90 million in a vehicle that sold over 208,000 units in Europe alone last year.

Global Project, Local Development

The Yaris is sold all over the globe, but Toyota Europe have been almost solely responsible for this particular improvement project. Indeed, this is the first time changes made to the European model will be directly adopted for its sister model, the Vitz, which is manufactured and sold in Japan. Yaris will continue to be produced by Toyota Motor Manufacturing France at their Valenciennes factory, where it has been building Yaris since 2001, with over 3 million rolling off the production line in that time.

New Styling

Toyota know that design is a key decision factor in the B-segment in which that Yaris competer, and as such has sharpened the Yaris’ styling, with a greater emphasis on horizontal lines that give the impression of a wide stance and low centre of gravity. At the front there’s a new “catamaran” shape front bumper, sharper headlight units and an unmissable trapezoidal grille, which gives a 3D effect to the front of the car. Bi-tone grades also get a honeycomb grille.

The rear of the car is a complete change for the Yaris, with a new tailgate design and new rear light clusters that extend from the rear wings into the boot lid itself. Higher grades will receive continue the impression of a low centre of gravity and give the car a sporty look.

Improved Interior

There’s fresh upholstery for the new Yaris, and a complete re-design for the instrument cluster which now features a 4.2-inch colour TFT multi-information display, similar to the ones on other recently introduced models such as Auris, RAV4 and C-HR. This is controlled via a directional switch on the steering wheel, giving the driver access to trip information, fuel economy and media settings among other things.

Toyota Touch 2 multimedia is standard on the majority of the range and other changes include propeller-style air vents, new switches and cool-blue instrument illumination.

Yaris Hybrid

The Yaris remains the only vehicle in the B-segment with a full hybrid powertrain option, giving a smooth, relaxing & efficient choice that’s unlike any other car in its class. Emissions are best in class (from just 75 g/km) and combined fuel economy remains above 80 mpg. The latest incarnation is much improved too; the being car even quieter and more comfortable with better steering accuracy and overall handling.

New 1.5-litre Engine

The most populer 1.33-litre engine option has been replaced with an all-new 1.5-litre naturally aspirated unit in anticipation of new European laws regarding “real world” fuel economy and emissions. Despite being more powerful than the outgoing engine, it’s up to 12% more fuel efficient. 110bhp instead of 100bhp means 0-62mph acceleration drops from 11.8 to 11.0 seconds while overtaking speeds are much better as well.

Standard Toyota Safety Sense

Toyota is committed to making every vehicle as safe as it can be, and as such has introduced the Toyota Safety Sense suite of active/passive technologies as standard across the Yaris range. This package includes a Pre-collision system, autonomous emergency braking, automatic high beam, lane departure alert and on all but entry-level grade, Road Sign Assist.
