New 2017 Suzuki Ignis

The all-new 2017 Suzuki Ignis has been unveiled at this year’s Paris Motor Show. Revitalising and rejuvenating a previously popular nameplate, the new Ignis is a smart and versatile compact crossover which is designed to turn heads.

“How big is it?” we hear you ask. To give you an idea, the new 2017 Suzuki Ignis is 3700mm in length, 25mm longer than the Jimny and 150mm shorter than a current Swift model. Width wise, it comes in at 1690mm, which is 5mm slimmer than a Swift.

The exterior stays true to Suzuki’s DNA of simple and Iconic styling, and is made up of simple straight lines with inspiration taken from the first generation Vitara, Cervo and Swift models, with the end goal of creating purely iconic crossover styling that is instantly recognisable as a Suzuki. Because of its compact dimensions and high driving position, a spacious cabin is combined with excellent visibility and makes the car easy and pleasant to drive.

In total there are 13 exterior colour combinations, including the new Flame Orange Pearl Metallic, Neon Blue Metallic and Helios Gold Pearl Metallic. There are also 3 dual-tone options, in line with modern trends.

Inside the new Ignis you’ll find an interior that accentuates the tone set by the exterior, emphasising the car’s fun-to-drive and characterful nature. The meter cluster is given a dynamic look and the entire instrument panel only uses materials of a rich texture highlighting the fantastic build quality of the vehicle.

Under the bonnet will be the latest version of the 1.2-litre dualjet petrol engine that is used in Suzuki cars all over the world, offering great performance and economy. A mild-hybrid version (named SHVS – Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) will also be offered, with the benefit of increased fuel economy and lower emissions. Manual and Automatic versions of the new Ignis will be offered to UK buyers when it goes on sale next year.

Suzuki is synonymous with building fantastically capable 4WD vehicles. The Ignis will be no different thanks to the inclusion of ALLGRIP AUTO 4WD technology, which is able to distribute power and torque to the front/rear wheels depending on which has the most grip. This gives the driver improved confidence when driving on wet, icy and slippery road surfaces, as well as off-road capability far beyond that of a 2WD vehicle.

No word on pricing or specification levels just yet, but the new Ignis is scheduled to go on sale in January 2017 – we can’t wait to get our hands on one at Ron Brooks Suzuki Mansfield!
