The new 2016 Suzuki Vitara S will land at Ron Brooks Suzuki Mansfield, near Chesterfield and Nottingham, this winter, going on sale from January 2016. This new range-topper will be a fantastic addition to the already rather comprehensive Vitara range, with a new engine, as well as a new look and, unbelievably, even more specification!
Engine Performance and Fuel Economy
The biggest element separating the Vitara S from the rest of the Vitara range is the fantastic new 1.4-litre turbocharged “BOOSTERJET” petrol engine. This punchy power plant will deliver fantastic acceleration (0-62mph in just 10.2 seconds) and performance (top speed is 124 mph) thanks to 140PS of power and 220 Nm of torque.
You might be forgiven for thinking that this amount of power and performance as well as the use of a petrol engine would result in yet another gas-guzzling and high-polluting SUV that has very few green credentials. You would be wrong however, because some technical wizardry (explained below) from Suzuki means that the new Vitara S emits just 127 g/km of CO2 and combined fuel economy is rated at 52.3 mpg for the manual transmission version. Automatic gearboxes aren’t as thirsty as they once were and the auto Vitara S emits 128 g/km of CO2 and has an official combined fuel economy figure of 51.3 mpg, just 1 g/km and 1 mpg worse off than the frugal manual version.

If you’re interested in how the newly-developed BOOSTERJET engine is so efficient yet powerful, then pay close attention. It’s a direct-injection turbocharged petrol unit, which is compact in size and offers impressive torque of 220 Nm from just 1,500 RPM all the way to 4,000 RPM. It uses a small-displacement high-torque turbo which through controlling the wastegate valve, closes during heavy load operation in order to create extra pressure and power. Under normal driving conditions, the wastegate valve can remain open to reduce pumping loss and significantly improve fuel efficiency.
The specially-developed turbo is attached directly onto the cylinder head, and the exhaust manifold is also incorporated into the cylinder head casting for minimum heat loss and optimum gas flow through the turbo unit, with a boost pressure of 1.1 bar. All these changes means that traditional turbo lag is virtually eliminated, making for a smooth and responsive drive.
ALLGRIP four-wheel-drive is fitted as standard to both the manual and automatic versions
Vitara S Design
There are several styling cues that separate the Vitara S from the standard Vitara. A new front grille design is perhaps the most obvious change, and other sporty styling features include 17” Gloss-black alloy wheels, satin silver door mirrors, LED headlamps with red projector covers, rear upper spoiler and black side body mouldings. The sporting theme continues inside the car thanks to red accents on the air con vents & instruments, as well as aluminium sports pedals and red interior stitching. The car will be available in four different colours: Bright red (solid), Cool white pearl (metallic), Galactic grey (metallic) and Cosmic black (metallic).
