One of our Sales Executives has today completed a 67-mile showroom Bikeathon at our dealership in Ilkeston, Derbyshire.
Thank You Giltbrook Decathlon!
Ian Thompson, of Ripley, spent over 3 hours on his bike inside the showroom, attached to a Turbo Trainer kindly donated for the day by our local Decathlon sports store. The challenge was to bike from Ilkeston to the Manchester Velodrome – the Home of British Cycling and the venue of many international cycling events.
Half Way Through
Ian blitzed the first 20 miles in around an hour, but started to tire after he struck the half-way mark nearly two hours in. Many customers who were looking at new Toyotas or having their car serviced showed their support for Ian with kind words of encouragement and by contributing to his donation bucket.
The Final Mile!
With an impressive average speed of 19.9 mph Ian completed the ‘virtual’ course in just over 3 hours and 30 minutes, adding on an extra 3 miles to bring him to a round total of 70. In total his endurance challenged raised over £200 for Comic Relief, bringing Ron Brooks ever closer to their £10,000 fundraising target.
70.05 miles in 3 hours 30 mins
Ian said “This was certainly my biggest challenge on two wheels. About half way through I really started to feel the aching in my legs, but it was well worth it. I’d like to thank everyone who came to give me encouragement and especially those who donated. Oh and Decathlon too for lending me the Turbo Trainer so I didn’t have to ride up the A6 to Manchester for real!”
