Ron Brooks Press Release – New Site Opening – Suzuki Derby

Ron Brooks Motor Group, a Family-owned Dealership Group based in the East-Midlands are proud to announce the appointment of the Suzuki Sales and Service Franchise for the Derby and significant wider market area including Burton to their portfolio.

The 60-year-old group which has been partnered with Toyota for over 50 years and Suzuki now for 10 years, is expanding its footprint with a 2nd Suzuki Site in Derby, contiguous to the existing Ron Brooks Suzuki operation in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.

The site based in the heart of Derby, on Pentagon Island, intends to officially open to customers 1st May 2024. At present work is on-going to get the site up to Ron Brooks high standards and also our Brand Partner standards ready for our customers.

An official opening will be communicated in due course; although this is a perfect time to coincide with the All-New Suzuki Swift Launch to showcase this vehicle to the Derby territory.

Ideally situated on Pentagon Island, 1 mile from the Centre of Derby City Centre, the new site sits prominently on a large 2-acre site.

The location is arguably one of the most prominent and visible sites in Derby; the showroom is in the heart of most other Major Car Dealerships in the city.

As all main arterial and key routes/ roads into the city meet at the Island, this gives the site unrivalled traffic visibility. The site has been vacant for some time, but Ron Brooks are committed to bring this site back to life with significant investment, also signalling a further pledge to the Derby and East Midlands area.

As well as significant investment into the site, we believe this site will initially create 15 jobs immediately. Over time, as the site grows and business builds, and with the wider group’s requirements in central functions, we believe this to be closer to 50 jobs in the Medium-term.

The Ron Brooks Group has a growth ambition to soon exceed £100m turnover as a business.

In addition to mark the launch, Ron Brooks have continued further investment and support into their partnerships in the city. Building on their long-standing Partnership with Derby County Football Club, Ron Brooks Motor Group are excited to announce we’re now the preferred vehicle partner for Derbyshire County Cricket Club.

We have supplied 2 New Suzuki S-Cross vehicles for their international players for the forthcoming 2024 season.

Chairman and Managing Director, Kevin Slack said ‘We’re proud to have the opportunity to be the preferred vehicle partner for DCCC through our Suzuki division of our group. We’re delighted to also announce the opening of our new site on Pentagon Island, just a ball throw from the County Ground. This new site expands our groups portfolio and to be able to have presence in Derby excites us all and will ensure we work more closer with the club moving forwards and into the future’.

Group Manager, Tom Slack mentions ‘Ron Brooks are proud to have been appointed the Suzuki business in the significant market territory of Derby. We would like to thank Dale Wyatt, the directors and wider management team of Suzuki GB as they put further commitment in us. Our relationship with Suzuki is a true partnership and one we are committed together to making even stronger. With the all-new Swift launch in Q2 it is an exciting time.

Whilst the Ron Brooks business is 60 Years in the making, we are committed to a new growth strategy over the coming years. To grow meaningful relationships with selected brands at scale and to navigate the future market in true partnership spirit. This will be aided by our operational, geographical and customer focused excellence. It is a very exciting time for the business and our colleagues, and we are proud to offer ever more choice to our customers.

Alvaston mum is driving away with brand new car after scooping first prize in hospice car raffle

‘Shocked and amazed’ Jo Butler from Alvaston is driving away with a brand-new car worth £17,000 after winning first prize in the Treetops Hospice Summer Raffle.

The juniper-blue Toyota Aygo X Edge, complete with new ‘73’ car registration plates, was donated by local car dealership, Ron Brooks Toyota to help the end-of-life charity celebrate its 40th anniversary year.

Mum of two, Jo, 53, was in disbelief when she received the call to say she’d won first prize:

“I was on holiday in Greece when I received the call and wasn’t sure if it was really genuine! I never imagined that I would be fortunate enough to win. I’m over the moon and still can’t believe how lucky I am to have won. It’s all so surreal.”

Widowed in 2019, Jo explained how her late husband Shaun would have been particularly thrilled with her win:

“Shaun worked for Toyota for over 18 years. In 2003, he had a life-changing accident whilst we were on a family holiday. A fall into the sea resulted in tetraplegia (a condition where you can’t move the upper and lower parts of the body). He became a full-time wheelchair user and relied on 24-hour care at home.

“Whilst Shaun was in hospital following his accident, a nurse said to him, “tetraplegics don’t work”, which gave him the determination to prove her wrong and be able to return to his role of Team Leader at Toyota.

“Toyota were absolutely amazing, and Shaun achieved his goal of returning to work until he took early retirement in 2017 because of ill health.  I know he would be so pleased that I have won a car and that it’s a Toyota!”

Jo was inspired to set up her own care agency, Quality Home Care, which she’s been managing for over 18 years.

“We are currently looking after a lady that is receiving end of life care and has the support of Treetops Hospice at Home nurses. They are a truly professional, dedicated, and caring team. The amazing service that they provide is so much appreciated by patients and their loved ones.”

Ron Brooks Managing Director, Kevin Slack, was delighted to hand over the keys of the Toyota to Jo at their Ilkeston show room. He said:

“We’re delighted that a local person has won this terrific prize, and it’s very fitting given Jo’s late husband’s long career with Toyota.

“We are also very pleased to help Treetops raise money to enable them to keep doing their fantastic, and much needed, care in the local community.

“We’ve just celebrated 60 years in business and 50 years with Toyota. In the last year, our joint founder Mrs Elsie Brooks, passed away aged 92. She had been a long-time supporter of Treetops and so it was important to us to mark the occasion, in her memory, and work with the charity on this raffle.”

Julie Heath, Treetops Hospice chief executive, thanked Ron Brooks Toyota for helping the charity raise over £26,000 in the raffle. Proceeds go towards providing nursing care and emotional support to adults with life-limiting conditions, those who’ve been bereaved and their families. Julie said:

“We were thrilled to be able to offer people the chance to win such an amazing prize during our 40th birthday year. We’re so grateful to Ron Brooks Toyota for their very generous donation and want to congratulate Jo on her brilliant win!”

Ron Brooks Toyota also donated runner-up prizes including £2,000, a pair of tickets to the British GT Championships at Donington Park, and twenty £50 prizes.

March 1st means we are excited just like all of our customers collecting their brand new 23 plates today at Ron Brooks.
We look forward to seeing you soon!!

Ron Brooks Group are proud to continue to sponsor UK Swimmer Elliot Clogg.

Here’s the latest update from Elliot’s family for the last few months. Well done Elliot, we’re very proud of your achievements!!

SEPTEMBER
Elliot returned to full training at the National Centre training healthy and without any interruption.
Elliot was selected to attend British Swimming’s 2-day National Relay Camp on the 29th/30th September which brought together the crop of funded and unfunded athletes likely to be pushing for places on the Team which went very well.

OCTOBER
Training has continued well with new pool and land tailored program for Elliot more aerobic based as opposed to anerobic. Mel set out competitions that Elliot should submit entries for before Y/E as follows: –
British Universities Short Course Championships 19th – 20th Nov.
English National Winter Short Course Championships 2nd – 4th Dec.
Scottish National Short Course Championships 9th – 11th Dec.
Mel has also set out Elliot’s targets for the next 2 years leading up to Paris: –
• To become the No 1 Ranked 100m Backstroker in Britain.
• To qualify for the Paris Olympics 2024.
• To also lead off the 4 x 100 Medley Relay in Paris.

NOVEMBER
Elliot travelled to Sheffield to compete for Loughborough in the British Universities Short Course Champs, events entered were the 50, 100, 200 back, 100 free and the 4 x 100 free relay.
On day 1, Elliot took part in the heats of the 4 x 100 free relay making the Final to be held the following day with a split of 21.67.
On Day 2, Elliot progressed from the heats to the A Finals in both the 50 and 200 back, in the evening Finals Elliot pulled out of the 50 to focus on the 200-back event and the relay event. It proved to be the right decision as Elliot took Gold in the 200 back, in a time of 1.54.11 and secured Gold with the team in the 4 x 100 free relay later that evening.
Day 3, Elliot progress from the heats of both the 100 free and 100 back to make both A Finals, in the 100 free taking Bronze in a time of 48.71 then finishing 4th in the 100 back with a time of 52.57.
Elliot with Team Loughborough Gold 4 x 100 Free Relay Elliot with Team Loughborough Top Team Trophy

DECEMBER
Elliot travelled to Edinburgh for Scottish Nationals Short Course Champs, events entered were the 50 back, 100 back and 100 free.
In the 100 free, Elliot progressed from the heats and finished 4th in the A Final finishing 4th posting a personal best time of 47.96 and dipping under 48 seconds for the first time which was pleasing. The following day was the 50 back event, again Elliot progressed from the heats to make the A Final and finished 5th with a time of 24.50.
The final day of competition was the 100 back, Elliot progressed from the heat to qualify fastest for the A Final with a personal best time of 52.10. In the final Elliot was pipped to 1st place by 0.07, but again achieved another personal best time of 51.80 dipping under 52 seconds for the first time.
Considering Elliot had to pull out of English Short Course Nationals the previous weekend, Elliot was very pleased with his performances at Scottish Nationals as was his coach Mel, it shows a sign that he is heading in the right direction given the personal bests achieved over the course of the weekend.
Elliot will be heading out to Australia on the New Year’s Eve with Mel and the rest of the squad (7), for a very important 6-week intense winter training camp. Adam Peaty, Luke Greenbank, Anna Hopkin, are already out there with Mel competing in the World Short Course Championships in Melbourne 13th – 18th December. Once again Elliot is extremely grateful for the support that enables him to continue to receive the same continued level of training as funded athletes.

Wishing you a great Christmas and Happy New Year in advance.

It’s with great sadness that Ron Brooks Holdings Limited, Ron Brooks Limited, and associated companies of Ron Brooks Motor Group announce the passing death of joint founder Elsie Brooks.
Elsie passed away peacefully on Thursday 11th August. Elsie remained a Director from day one, 1st July 1962, until her passing.
Our Managing Director and son in-law Kevin Slack says ‘She was a special lady with strong principles. She was hard working and continued to be dedicated to the Ron Brooks Business following the death of Ron in 1998 and her daughter Julie in 1999 and relished the challenge of a woman working in the male dominated motor industry in the last 60 years. Her family was also very important to her with many working in the business over the years. She spent lots of time with her siblings and many nieces and nephews and leaves her 2 beloved grandsons, Tom and Joe.
I am pleased she lived to see the business celebrate 60 years in business on 30th June. She has left a great legacy’.
Thank you for everything you did for the business and Rest in Peace Elsie from all at Ron Brooks Motor Group.

A town’s popular classic car show is set to roar back into life this summer having been cancelled the last two years because of the Covid pandemic.

The Ilkeston Heritage and Classic Vehicle Show will hit the road on Sunday, August 14 bringing the sights and sounds of yesteryear to the town centre.

This will 10 years since the first show,  filling the Market Place and surrounding streets with colourful memories and attracting exhibitors and visitors from across the country.

Before then it had grown rapidly over seven years to attract thousands of visitors of all ages to make it the biggest one day event in the town.

Families have wandered around hundred of classic and sports cars, motorbikes and scooters, lorries, buses, tractors and steam engines enjoying chats with proud owners about their history.

So well-liked is the show that when there was a preliminary mention on Facebook the item attracted 10,000 views in a day.

Ian Viles, chief executive of Erewash Partnership, said: “We are thrilled at the prospect of putting on the car show again and providing an entertaining day out for past attendees as well as new ones which we hope will boost spirits after a difficult time

“Once we are confident that we have received enough support we will then make exhibitors tickets available to book online.  We look forward to welcoming people to what we hope will be a great day.”

We look forward to seeing each and every car that is on display. Make sure you pop down to our stand and say hello!

Toyota fund for a better tomorrow with Ron Brooks Toyota and Scargill Primary School.
During the past 2 years children have been exposed to the pressures of Covid and the current climate and their routines have all been affected and we wanted to help by speaking with Toyota to help fund and create a wellbeing space for the children to use to spend time away from the daily demands and stress of life and to be able to relax in a peaceful surrounding.
Ron Brooks donated £1,600 to help build the new space which should be completed in June, ready for everyone to enjoy the summer months. Our MD, Kevin Slack, said “To be given the chance to help Scargill School and the children in our local community is another proud moment for us and one we want to continue into the future with Toyota.”
With Scargill C of E Primary School being in the heart of our local community and our children and co-workers relatives working there, it was an ideal opportunity to help in any way we could and having a practical project aimed at achieving durable change in the community was agreed by Mr Hetherington, Executive Headteacher.
Mr Hetherington said “I would like to thank Ron Brooks & Toyota for this very generous donation, which has enabled us to continue our work to provide a calm, reflective and peaceful space for our children to use. We hope this will be something we can continue to add to and develop for the benefit of future generations of Scargill children”.
As soon as the wellbeing space is completed and ready to use we will be back at Scargill School to see how fantastic it will look and see the children using & enjoying the space!
